Project Overview
Learning Together approached Davis Graphic Design with a unique challenge -- create a fresh new look for a 30 year-old non-profit, without losing its current audience recognition. While the agency name had recognition power within child-focused groups, the Learning Together brand has suffered in recent years due to lack of attention.
This project was to incorporate all aspects of Learning Together's marketing tools, including Web site and collateral. The logo was outdated and lacked the professional image the agency wanted to portray. They had a Web site in place, but it was visually bland and lacked a cohesive personality. This resulted in poor visitor experience and erosion of brand perception. Lastly, Learning Together struggled to convey information about the three child-focused programs they offer that cater to very different audiences.
Strategy
The first order of business was to establish a strong visual brand for Learning Together. Due to the agency's longevity in the community, they wanted to maintain some level of recognition. The stars of the old logo were a natural bridge to achieve this.
The new logo represents Learning Together’s vision and mission statement: to meet the developmental, educational, and health needs of young children of all abilities. The different colors and shapes of the stars show the diversity of the children at Learning Together. The colors - purple, green, and blue - represent the three areas that Learning Together focuses on: purple for passion and education; green for growth and development, and blue for health. The literal merging of these elements to make a whole child further drives home the vision and mission of the people at Learning Together.
Establishing a vibrant visual and informational Web presence for Learning Together was next on the list of needs. Davis Graphic Design worked with WebUNeek to develop a Content Management System using Drupal. This would allow the non-profit to better manage their marketing funds by having the ability to handle the majority of future content changes themselves. A custom Web site design that utilized the basic informational structure of the old Learning Together site, but enhanced the visual experience of its user, was created. This was achieved through the addition of added colors and child-focused imagery of actual Learning Together clients. Further, a visual separation of the various programs and sections of the site was devised to assist in the readability and navigation of the site.
Result
The client was ecstatic! We'll let them speak for us...
“The team here at Learning Together wanted to make a logo that not only represented Learning Together as an organization but also to celebrate each individual child,” said Nell G. Barnes, Executive Director at Learning Together. “Each day we work to realize our vision and mission statement and wanted our logo and website to signify all that we are for the children we serve, as well as a resource for families in our community.”
“I am thrilled about the new look of our logo and the new website – we’ll be able to more clearly articulate the great work that goes on at Learning Together, and help parents of potential students learn how we can help them,” said Eric VonHaam, President of the Board of Directors. “The new logo builds on our proud tradition, and emphasizes all of our programs, and help raise awareness of this great organization. What I love most about the new logo and look of the website is how it honors our history but opens up our future to all of the new possibilities ahead.”
